Dr. Somali Chaterji is an Associate Professor in Biological Engineering and Electrical & Computer Engineering at Purdue University. Dr. Chaterji's research is on machine learning for the Internet of Things and for computational genomics. She is the co-founder and CEO of a cloud computing startup, KeyByte (from 2021). She is also a thrust leader of the NSF Center: Chorus. As part of the leadership team for the Wabash Heartland Innovation Network (WHIN), Purdue, from 2018 to 2023, she played a key role in the WHIN project ($40M, funded by the Lily Endowment, 2018-2023). Her contributions included developing efficient algorithms to optimize streaming video data, addressing challenges of unlabeled data for computer vision applications, and optimizing IoT data analysis and drone trajectories for efficient scouting and surveillance. Dr. Chaterji's work stems from a belief in the transformative power of big data to generate actionable insights from heterogeneous and ubiquitous sensing data. She also develops algorithms for single-cell genomics data and for high-throughput databases for genomics.
